A calmer weekly shop: plan, carry and keep choosing for yourself
·01Check first, then shop
A good weekly shop starts at home. Look in the fridge and cupboards together and see what should be used soon. Instead of listing only categories, plan two or three actual meals. That makes the list more useful and reduces impulse purchases.
Agree in advance who makes the choices and who provides support. The person shopping decides on products, brands and budget. A helper can compare hard-to-read prices, reach high shelves or carry bags. Existing allergy information and medically prescribed dietary advice should guide the choices.
·02Four sections for a useful list
- Fresh food: What will be eaten in the next few days?
- Cupboard: What is genuinely missing?
- Household: Which supplies will run out soon?
- Errands: Is there another stop worth combining with the trip?
Choose a route with time for breaks and avoid keeping frozen food out for too long. Return receipts and change clearly. At home, put heavy items within easy reach and add any missed items to next week's list.
